Nursery Ministry

Nursery Ministry

Your child is a special gift from God and we will strive to provide the best love and care for your child while in our nursery. To help us with this, please read our nursery guidelines very carefully and regard each item. By working together, we will be able to offer a safe and nurturing environment.
Times and Location
Nursery/Childcare is offered for both Sunday morning worship services at 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. and during the Sunday school hour at 9:15 a.m. Childcare is also offered for Sunday and Wednesday evening activities, and for special events. Nursery workers will be in the rooms fifteen minutes prior to each session for drop-off. Our Nursery is located in SONshine Island located on the East side of our campus.
Nursery Rooms
Are located in the following places, and additional rooms will be opened as needed for older children:
Room 205: Infants & Creepers
Room 203: Wobblers & Toddlers
Room 201: Two-year-olds (Sunday School is offered for two-year-olds at 9:15 a.m. on Sunday mornings)
Who will care for my child?
Our nursery is staffed by one paid worker per age group and volunteers who rotate weekly. Every worker has experience and has been safe sanctuary screened. Crossgates UMC holds training sessions for all workers and volunteers, and they wear name tags each week to help you identify them.

Nursery Care Process

Sign-in
Because we strive to provide the safest environment for your child, we require you to sign your child in. Sign-in sheets are located on the door of each nursery room. Please indicate any special instructions concerning sleep and feeding schedules, allergies etc. Once you have signed-in, make a name label and place it on your child’s back. Keep the matching part of the label, you will be required to show the matching label to pick up your child.
If it is your child’s first time to stay in the nursery, we ask you to fill out a contact information sheet. Members and visitors who attend regularly are asked to update this form annually or when information is out of date.
Cell phone number/Pager
We ask you to leave a cell phone number that we can contact you with while on campus. Place your phone on vibrate while attending worship and other gatherings. We also provide a limited number of pagers for your convenience. Please remember to return the pagers when you pick up your child. If your child is inconsolable or unwell we will contact immediately.
Drop-off
Once you sign-in, you may hand your child over the door to the childcare worker. No one is to enter the nursery rooms except the workers and the children. There are several reasons for this: sanitation, cleanliness, space, and ease of adjustment for the children.  We need to protect and care for the children already in our care and people in and out of the room can cause injuries, children can escape, and parents lingering to socialize takes attention from the children who we are caring for.

What to Bring
We recommend that parents bring a diaper bag and bottle/sippie cup. You will also need to bring any food or snacks, diapers, wipes, bibs and an extra change of clothes. Everything you bring to the nursery should be labeled with your child’s name.
Pick-up
Pick-up time can be very challenging for our workers as everyone arrives at the same time. Please be patient and understand that safety is our main concern during this busy time. Children will not be released unless your child’s matching nametag is presented at the time of pick-up.

Other Information

Health Policies
We are striving to make the nursery as safe and healthy as possible. Refrain from bringing your child to the nursery if he/she has had any of the following symptoms within the past 24 hours: Diarrhea, fever, colored mucus from the nose, coughing, vomiting, skin rash, open sores. No medication will be given to any child while staying in the nursery. If your child develops any of the above symptoms while in the nursery, you will be asked to take your child home.
Snacks
Periodically, snacks such as goldfish, graham crackers etc. are provided. Snacks are used only when necessary during long nursery stays.  Please indicate on the special instructions form if you would rather your child not receive a snack, and indicate any allergies as well.
Volunteers Needed
To provide a successful family ministry, parents are asked to serve as a nursery volunteer on a rotation schedule. Let us know when you can serve by completing a Children’s Ministry Volunteer Form (PDF).
