Crossgates United Methodist Church was established May 6, 1973. The church began services in the club room of the Rankin County Livestock Pavilion with Reverend Thomas Price serving as part-time minister. Ground-breaking ceremonies for the initial portion of the church building were held on September 21, 1975.
In 1976, the Mississippi Annual Conference named Crossgates UMC “Church of the Year of East Jackson for Outstanding Achievement.”
In 1979, an education building with 6 classrooms was added and in 1982 an additional building with fellowship hall, kitchen and six more classrooms were completed.
The year 1991 saw the completion of a new 600 seat sanctuary and five new classrooms.
In December 1991, the church purchased 1.8 acres of land and three buildings containing over 13,000 square feet of space. This new property houses a full-time childcare center which opened in May 1992.
An additional 6 acres of land were purchased for future building and use on July 18, 1998. Completion of the Christian Activities Center, gym and 11 new classrooms occurred in January 2002. The original sixteen families in 1973 have grown to a membership of over 1300 in 2005.
